Elm Seed Sonnet 2025
Elm Seed Sonnet is a piece which is still changing colour. The watercolour paintings of the elm seeds are as close as I could get to how they looked when I collected them last year. These seeds, now scattered across the lines, are slowly turning brown. They may fade, crumble or get darker. As such, this piece could be seen as work in progress, an ongoing process of change and decay. The meaning of the circular space spanning the gap between the two verses in this 14 line ‘poem’ is open for interpretation. For me, when making it, I was thinking about the falling numbers of Elm trees in the landscape.
