Set on the northern coast of a large island off mainland Europe this film explores the origins of rituals performed by inlanders on their annual pilgrimage to the sea. The narrator, not a native of this island, observes and gives a commentary on the pilgrims' activities as she speculates on the forces which motivate them, year upon year, to return to the water's edge.
