Midden Figure

A figure in the landscape has been a long-term theme in my work. I’ve just started a new piece – it’s made from objects found in a fly tip in an area of young woodland and overgrown mining waste land near a road on the edge of our farm. It’s likely they were dumped by my grandparents; there were no refuse collections in the fifties and sixties.
I plan to make a series of photographs with this figure, taking one a month for the next year. I started it in October, on a slope beside a clump of foxgloves.
Many thanks to fellow NSA member, photographer Patrick Shanahan for taking the photos of me in situ. I am very excited about being the subject of one of his current projects; he is making a series of portraits of 6 members of the Newlyn Society of Artists with their work.
